Founded in Portland, Maine in the late 1980s by husband-and-wife divers Dana and Denise Leavitt, Great Atlantic Seafood began as a small hands-on operation—harvesting scallops and urchins and selling them on the Portland docks. This small venture quickly grew into a global trading company, with majority of products being sent to Japan, evolving into Great Atlantic Trading Inc. as the Leavitts’ passion for caviar and fine roes took center stage.
